Breakthrough Learning in a Digital Age
A forum hosted by Google, Inc., in cooperation with forum founders: the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, Common Sense Media, the MacArthur Foundation. October 27-28, 2009.

“Breakthrough Learning in a Digital Age will bring together 200 of the nation’s top thought leaders in science and technology, informal and formal education, entertainment media, research, philanthropy, and policy to create and act upon a breakthrough strategy for scaling-up effective models of teaching and learning for children.”
gml: Yet more indication that Google considers itself in a post-education yet still nascent learning industry. Since this was an invitation-only forum, it’s interesting to scan the list of attendees. Webcasts of the 2-day event were held, but they do not seem to be publicly available. The Boston Globe Magazine this weekend had a nice, balanced article by Neil Swidey called Why An iPhone Could Actually Be Good For Your 3-Year-Old. The article mentions work being done by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, one of the founders of the forum.
